The Bosnia team began its work in Sarajevo in April 2004. The team is currently involved in playground restoration, and is working with a new program they developed for kids, known as “Kid’s Discovery.”
Since the end of the Bosnian war, efforts have been made on an international level to bring positive change and growth after such devastating tragedy and loss. While significant progress has been made within many different realms of society, one important sector has unfortunately been overlooked, the nation’s children. This is why World Advocates Bosnia has chosen to focus its efforts on Bosnia-Herzegovina’s most valuable resource, her children.
Our organization has chosen to improve the lives of the children of Sarajevo in two specific ways: through the restoration and development of playgrounds and by cultivating lifeskills in the children through our kid’s program called, “Kid’s Discovery.” Our focus is centered on the belief that play is a significant part of a child’s overall development and one that cannot be overlooked.
Projects
Playground Restoration & Development
Many playgrounds and play areas throughout Sarajevo remain in poor condition. World Advocates has joined the local government to create safe play havens for children and families alike. Our field staff host international teams in order to rebuild playgrounds in public parks and within the school system of Sarajevo
Kid’s Discovery
Kid’s Discovery is an interactive, engaging ethics-based learning program in which students learn English, as well as a variety of life-long lessons. A pilot version of the program was recently completed. The course is currently being offered to about 85 children between the ages of 8 and 13 at a local children’s center
Volunteer Teams
World Advocates hosts teams from many different nations and communities each year that give from one to three weeks of their time in playground restoration. This is a great opportunity for faith based communities, youth organizations and community teams to serve in a creative way. For more information please contact our main office by email at
